Jeanne Corrigal, our guiding teacher, leads a 30 minute sit every Wednesday evening, followed by a talk and discussion. The last Wednesday of each month, Jeanne leads a lovingkindness meditation. All are welcome.
Dear friends,
We are cultivating our community together in so many ways. I feel so grateful to be a part of our circle of dharma friends, and to be able to walk this path together.
I began practicing with the SIMC community at the first retreat that Doris Larson organised in Saskatoon, in 1999. I completed Spirit Rock’s Dedicated Practitioner and Community Dharma Leader Programs, and then Susie Harrington, Guy Armstrong, and Adrianne Ross mentored me in the 2017 – 2021 Insight Meditation Society (IMS) Teacher training. Carol Wilson gave me the formal empowerment to teach, on behalf of IMS and the teaching team including herself, Joseph Goldstein, Kamala Masters, Guy Armstrong, DaRa Williams, Rebecca Bradshaw, Gil Frondsdal, and Bonnie Duran. I got to share part of the collective intention that I invited our sangha to write together on this occasion. This is the excerpt that I read to represent my teaching intention and this is the intention poem in its entirety.
Through IMS my lineage is primarily in the Theravada tradition through Mahasi Sayadaw and the Thai Forest lineages of Ajahn Chah and Ajahn Buddhadasa. I also have a love for Thich Nhat Hạnh and the Mahayana lineage as expressed through his teaching, and I had the good fortune of taking precepts with Thay. I find that these complement and support my Metis teachings, including the teachings of nature, through my parents and Elder Jim Settee.
At SIMC, our vision is to embrace our whole lives and whole community with the dharma. We are blessed by a wonderful leadership team and caring community, and blessed to be a part of the larger Prairie Dharma Community. There are many paths in our collective journey, through our regular Wednesday evenings, or through one of our groups, programs, or retreats. Beginners and experienced practitioners all supporting each other, in spiritual friendship. We are fortunate to be together in the practice, in these times.
With the greatest metta,
Jeanne Corrigal
