Board of Directors

SIMC Incorporated has an administrative Board with up to nine Director positions. These positions are three-year terms. We intend to meet four times a year.

The Board sets policy and delivers service to the local community and is accountable for:

Purpose: Determining what community need(s) the organization wishes to address and how they will be accomplished

Progress: Setting the rate at which the organization takes on activities, programs and services to fulfill its purpose.

Continuity: Making sure that there are enough financial and human resources in place to guarantee the existence of the organization.

Identity: Clarifying to the community the organization’s values, beliefs, and services.

There are two standing Committees that support this work. The following table describes the committees and related director positions.

Executive CommitteeTo plan, manage, and support the work of the Board in the governance of the organization.
Chair (Officer)Provides leadership to the Board of Directors
Vice-Chair (Officer)Works closely with the chair as consultant and advisor
Treasurer (Officer)Monitors the finances and budget of the organization, oversees the work of the bookkeeper, completes annual reporting to the Corporate Registry
Secretary (Officer)Maintains the governance framework, keeps minutes and records, completes annual reporting to the Corporate Registry
Planning CommitteeTo plan and deliver programming and services for SIMC Incorporated members and the larger community.
If there is a guiding teacher for the community, they will be appointed to this position.
Director of PlanningEnhance the spiritual life of the SIMC community through learning and practicing the dharma in daily life.
If there is a community dharma teacher for the community, they will be appointed to this position.
Director of ProgrammingPlan and deliver programs and services of SIMC Incorporated.
Director of MembershipSupports the development of a community of inclusivity and belonging.
Director of MediaMaintains the website and other social media platforms.
Director of CommunicationsDevelop and deliver informational and promotional content.


General qualifications to serve on the Board include:

  • Has been a member in good standing with SIMC Incorporated for a minimum of 3 years, or at the discretion of the Board
  • A commitment to the vision of SIMC Incorporated
  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn about) the Non-profit Corporations Act
  • Leadership skills
  • Planning and Implementation skills
  • Teamwork and Collaboration skills
  • Communications skills
  • Conflict management skills

Depending on the position, other useful skills include knowledge of (or interest in learning about):

A director will contact you to arrange a meeting with several board members to get to know one another and address any questions either party might have.

If both the SIMC Board of Directors and you decide the process should move forward, a director will nominate you to become a director and stand for election.
