Title

Walking in the Buddha’s Footsteps

Retreat Description

On this residential retreat, we will use the Buddha’s story leading to his enlightenment as a guide for our practice. Each of us has a journey that we take from disenchantment with the things and accomplishments and stories of our lives, through to wisdom and understanding of what is truly important and brings ease and freedom. We may take this journey over years of practice, or in another way, many times a day. Becoming familiar with this journey allows us to find it more easily each time, increasing the speed and ease with which we move from being caught in suffering to happiness and release.

In the quiet and steady practice support of this silent residential retreat, we will deepen into the clarity of moment to moment attention that allows us to see the truth as it unfolds. Through seeing the truth, we can cultivate understanding and an open heart, with the opportunity to relate to ourselves and the world with curiosity and caring. There will be sitting and walking meditation, dharma talks, meetings with the teacher, and times for questions.

Teacher

Susie Harrington teaches meditation in the USA and Canada and is the guiding teacher for Desert Dharma, which serves many communities in the Southwest near her home in Moab, Utah. She has trained in the Insight tradition since 1989, and in 2005 was invited into teaching by Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein, and Guy Armstrong. Her teaching is deeply grounded in the body and often emphasizes the expression of mindfulness in speech and daily life. Susie brings the skills of inquiry, relational dharma, and the psychological/spiritual interface from her training in Hakomi Therapy and the Diamond Approach. Believing nature to be a profound teacher, and a gateway to our true self, she often offers retreats outside. For more information on Susie Harrington, see: desertdharma.org
